Sacarina Success Story Continues
With Sea the Moon, she is again in the headlines
Despite running green and hanging badly left in the straight
SEA THE MOON won Germany's leading Derby trial in convincing style and could become the 4th classic winner tracing back to
SACARINA, which was purchased by
STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK back in 1994 on behalf of Gestüt Karlshof for less than €4.000.
Philipp Stauffenberg can still recall the moment, when he spotted
SACARINA in the catalogue of the BBAG Autumn sale 1994. At this time she was a 2yo filly owned by Stall Hoppegarten and in training with Peter Remmert. We were always searching to purchase fillies or mares out of good families for affordable money and this one could fill the bill. She was unraced, her dam was a good race filly, winning four times at years, but did not achieve black typed and she had produced two black typed performers, so was no failure from this aspect. As most of the top performances further down the page were achieved before the introduction of the pattern system, the quality of the page was not really obvious. However her second dam
BRAVOUR was Champion-2yo and won the German 1000 Guineas. Her sister
BRISANZ was Champion-2yo and Champion-3yo winning the German 1000 Guineas and German Oaks.
SACARINA was purchased privately and put into training with Dave Richardson at Frankfurt. However she was not trainable, as after checking the reason, she had a broken vertebrae in her neck.
She was retired as a broodmare to Gestüt Karlshof and the rest is history, as they say.
