05/01/15 Review 2014

new records raise the bar again

2014 was a very good year for STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK and SCHLOSSGUT ITLINGEN. New records were set in several key areas.
In 2014 horses either bred at SCHLOSSGUT ITLINGEN or sold by STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK won 34 races and around €850.000, both new benchmarks. So far the highest numer of winners was achieved with 30 in 2010. The biggest amount of prize money was reached in 2008, when around €600.000 were won. The biggest earner became BIG EASY who won the Cesarewitch, one of, if not the biggest Handicap in Europe. Two more classic winners figured in the records, as KALDERA won the Deutsches St. Leger and AMIE NOIRE the Norsk Oaks. 2yo PENNYKING became the best of the 2yo generation after he won one of the valuable BBAG sales races. Even on the National Hunt front was a horse successful at Stakeslevel, when ABAKAHN won the Grand Steeplechase de Craon. All horses were sold at the BBAG Yearling Sales.
Not living up to the expectations were a couple of horses expected to get some nice results, as LUCKY SPEED did not improve on his Derby win, but had to overcome a very bad infection. And then there were a couple of 3yo's bred by Graf und Grafin Stauffenberg who were very promising, but were hit by injuries like CAPICHERA and especially ZILBER who had to be put down after a tragic accident on the gallops.
The sales front overall was incredible strong, but STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK experienced some really good results for it's clients. At the BBAG Yearling Sales, the most important sales in Germany, STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK became the leading vendor for the first time in 2014, when 10 of the 11 offered yearlings were sold. Yearlings prepped for different clients achieved top prizes at the leading sales round Europe, whether it was Arqana, Goffs or Tattersalls. At Tattersalls  especially it was, where some pretty good results were achieved. STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK consigned for the first time at Book I and II and it's clients were well rewarded, as six of the seven presented yearlings were sold and averaged more than GNS206,000. At Book II STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK had the highest average of all vendors selling more than one yearling.
To put it in perspective - overall there were 4,018 yearlings sold at the main European sales and averaged €77,480. The average of the yearlings prepped and sold by STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK achieved an average of  â‚¬163,851.
